Pompey Players Going To South Africa

Last updated : 18 November 2009 By Jim Bonner
With virtually all the World Cup play-offs played, the final line up for the 2010 World Cup is almost complete.

Hassan Yebda and Nadir Belhadj featured in Algeria's 1-0 win over extremely bitter rivals Egypt (their rivalry makes the South Coast derby seem like handbags).

They join a list of Pompey players past and present who will be likely to turn out for their nations for the big showdown next June, though do spare a thought for the poor Irish who were cheated out of a result against France despite playing so well.

Here is a list of Pompey players past and present who could well be seen representing their countries in South Africa 2010.

Current Pompey Players

David James (England)
Aaron Mokoena (South Africa)
Aruna Dindane (Ivory Coast)
Nwankwo Kanu (Nigeria)
Hassan Yebda (Algeria)
Nadir Belhadj (Algeria)
Angelos Basinas (Greece)
John Utaka (Nigeria)

Past Pompey Players

Glen Johnson (England)
Jermain Defoe (England)
Peter Crouch (England)
Sulley Muntari (Ghana)
Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Nigeria)
Kostas Chalkias (Greece)
Theofanis Gekas (Greece)
Pedro Mendes (Portugal)
Lassana Diarra (France)

You could build a team from those two lists!
