Pompey Issue Macca Statement

Portsmouth Football Club has confirmed that Alan McLoughlin has left the club in a statement released today.

In it, Andy Awford states that he was the one that wanted to change things around with the backroom staff and talks were held with Macca to try and keep him at the club in another role, but ultimately it was mutually decided that he would leave Pompey altogether.

If this was all Awford's decision as it seems, then this would nullify most of Paul Walsh's diatribe printed in The News yesterday. Fans may criticise the board, but it's unlikely that they would had much influence on the decision to ditch Macca given that the manager is the one taking the responsibility of the decision to change things around.

It's safe to say that the whole situation could have been handled better but this is going to happen with a board who are very much learning how to run a football club effectively.

They, and Awford, now need to ensure that Macca's replacement (who has League One and Two experience) is the right one. Because, after all, if the new man has a positive influence on results, especially away from home, then people will soon forget about this whole sorry saga.
