Pompey Held By Dons - Fratton Faithful

Pompey Held By Dons

Last updated : 26 February 2013 By Jim Bonner

Pompey's winless run now stands at 23 games after Shaun Williams's equaliser cancelled out David Connolly's opener.

I had to settle for listening to this game on the radio. It seemed like a much improved performance from Pompey in the first half against a lacklustre Dons outfit who looked nervy early on.

Jed Wallace's free kick was met by the head of Connolly to loop the ball over Dons keeper Ian McLoughlin after 22 minutes but unfortunately an unmarked Williams in the box turned and lashed the ball into the top corner of the net.

Pompey continued to press having been pegged back against the run of play but went into the interval level.

It seemed like the second half struck Portsmouth with that all-too-familiar curse of not being able to get into the game and being outplayed by an average team.

Thankfully, Izale McLeod spurned the opportunities given to him to score, including not getting his head to a cross at the far post which any decent striker would have scored. The former Pompey player was substituted on 57 minutes as the home fans ridiculed him.

Even though Karl Robinson's side had more of the ball this seemed to be a scrappy second half and a draw was probably a fair result in the end from what other fans have been saying.

Next up is a trip to Crewe who were hammered by Hartlepool tonight. Perhaps that is when this wretched winless run will finally end?
