Pompey Held At The Camrose

Pompey failed to beat non-league opposition for the second time in pre-season following a goalless draw with BlueSquare South side Basingstoke Town.

From what I heard from the radio commentary this was an extremely dire affair with the hosts having the two best chances after their efforts came off the woodwork.

Pompey fielded two different sides, the first one comprising of the majority of the first team which played the first 60 minutes and then Paul Hart rang the changes with a mixture of youth and trialists for the last 30. It should be noted that Younes Kaboul didn't make the game as he was stuck in traffic!

Pompey's best chances came either side of the break, with David Nugent squandering a great opportunity in the first half and Paris Cowan-Hall had his effort well saved by the Basingstoke goalkeeper.

Pre-season or not, I am slightly concerned that Pompey cannot seem to break down a side that are six divisions below us in the football league pyramid. Even so, Paul Hart needs time to assemble his side and so you can't make an accurate prediction on how our season is going to go yet.

Pompey get another go at non-league opposition when they take on Eastleigh on Monday. Let's hope they don't make it three-in-a-row.
