Pompey Face Cherries In League Cup

Portsmouth have been drawn away to Bournemouth in the first round of the League Cup for the 2013/2014 season.

The match will either take place on the 6th or 7th of August with a 7:45 or 8pm kick-off time. The game will also be the second time in a fortnight that Pompey fans can make the short journey across the south coast with a friendly due to be played at Dean Court on July 23rd.

It may be that the visiting supporters will be given a higher allocation for this match than the league fixture last season (which sold out extremely quickly) due to the new temporary stand being built behind the goal that could be used.

Matt Ritchie could feature against his former employers as could Shaun Cooper after Guy Whittingham refused to rule out signing the ex-Bournemouth man on a permanent basis.

It should be a good day out and its a better draw than having to travel to the likes of Leicester and Birmingham. However, it is a tough ask to beat Eddie Howe's men to advance to the next round when the Premier League teams not involved in European competitions enter the cup.
