Pompey Confirm Double Signing

Steve Finnan and Aaron Mokoena have officially been announced as Pompey's first two signings of the summer transfer window.

Of course, this news comes as no surprise but it's good to hear it straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. I do have a feeling that Pompey were hoping to unveil a triple signing with Croatian Nikola Kalinic being the third player, but it looks like we've been trumped by Blackburn there.

It seems like we're going to miss out on one of Croatia's hottest prospects, a player who has a scoring record of better than one every two games for his club.

There is every chance he may have turned out to be the next "Collins Mbesuma" but from what I've seen of him I think he could have been a very good signing for us. I will be disappointed if I see Kalinic standing there next to Sam Allardyce and his fat, cheesy, smug grin.

And what is the contingency plan? Mark Viduka? He would have been a good signing about 6 years ago but I feel he is well past it now and has virtually nothing to offer Pompey apart from barging defenders over and giving away stupid free kicks.

I just hope Paul Hart has an ace or four up his sleeve, so some more inspiring faces can come to Pompey once this takeover is formally complete. I think Finnan and Mokoena represent solid signings but we need much, much more if we're to stand a good chance of survival this season.

On a final not, I'd like to say a sad goodbye to Bobby Robson. He was a true legend of the game, a genuinely nice man and a great football character. I was honoured to have him present the FA Cup to Sol Campbell rather than a disinterested member of the Royal Family.

Even though he barely had anything to do with Portsmouth FC, Pompey fans have been mourning his death and have been speaking well of his memory. I wonder if Harry Redknapp will receive the same treatment from us when he goes?
