Pompey Capture Hermann

Harry has been very busy already and the season isn't officially over yet! The Pompey gaffer has added former Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson to the defence who arrives on a free transfer having had a relegation release clause in his contract. He has signed for 2 years.

The 32-year-old Icelandic defender can play either centre back or left back and I believe will do a solid job for us when needed, despite being part of a defence that conceded 60 goals this season for The Addicks.

Harry was after Hreidarsson when he was at Ipswich Town but Charlton won the race to sign him, but now he is at Pompey Redknapp believes his defensive signings are finished. The good news is that it looks very unlikely we'll be signing Titus Bramble. The bad news is that we're still without a top quality left back and in my opinion, unless Hreidarsson can surprise everyone, that position is still the weak link in our back four.

What will this signing mean for Dejan Stefanovic as him and Hermann are virtually the same type of player? Some fans are beginning to get worried about Sol Campbell's future with the two defensive signings we have made already but I believe he'll stay and if anything, it might be the Pompey captain who leaves.

So with the season not officially over yet Harry has managed to sign a great defender for free, a decent cover defender for free and we've agreed a record transfer fee with Udinese for Sulley Muntari. Things are certainly looking up and providing we don't lose any key players, things can only get better...
