Pitman Signs For Pompey

Portsmouth have confirmed the signing of Ipswich striker Brett Pitman on a three-year-deal via a leaked video on the official website late last night which has since been pulled.

Whilst someone at the club is ultimately going to suffer fo that gaffe, the news has made Pompey fans very happy as the 29-year-old should guarantee goals in League One as his scoring record speaks for itself.

He scored 99 goals in 267 appearances for Bournemouth over two spells having also scored 20 goals in 77 appearances for Bristol City inbetween. His first season at Ipswich saw him become the club's top scorer but he only netted four times in the Championship last season, although it is said he was unhappy playing for Mick McCarthy and his dinosaur tactics.

Whilst he isn't the quickest, Pitman has a natural knack for scoring goals and his technical ability ranks with the best strikers in League One. He should relish playing with the supply line behind him.

Once again, this seems like a shrewd signing from Kenny Jackett on paper although we shouldn't get too carried away just yet as previous "big names" to sign for Pompey in the past haven't lived up to their name. However, it will be interesting to see if Pitman has been signed to play primarilly as the lone striker or as a partner for someone else.

Pompey's transfer dealings seem to be impressive so far this summer, but who else has Kenny got lined up to sign up before the window shuts at the end of August?
