Pires controversy over alleged dive

Pires, who was involved in a simular scandal after admitting he had dived in the past last March, was criticised by the ITV Premiership's Ally McCoist after seeming to go down in a theatrical way under pressure from Dejan Stefanovic.

Pires seemed to deliberately make contact with Stefanovic's leg and collapsed in the box - Both Harry Redknapp and Dejan claimed that the Arsenal winger could well have been booked for the tumble.

Stefanovic said after the match: "After the game, Pires said to me 'Sorry, this was the referee's decision and we can't change it now'.

"I think we deserved a point and I think he could have given a yellow card to Pires and not a penalty. But, as he said, this is football and I cannot change it."

In a major shocker, Arsene Wenger missed the incident: "It's very difficult to say whether he touched him or not.

"It didn't look an obvious one to me but it wasn't obvious either way."

Portsmouth manager Redknapp was upbeat nonetheless afterwards, singleing out Amdy Faye, Yakubu Ayegbini and goalscorer Teddy Sheringham for praise.

"It was nice to see Teddy score. That's five goals for him now and he's got off to an outstanding start" 'Arry told the press afterwards.
