Pedro Mendes Day

Pompey are drawing 1-1 with Manchester City in a must-win game with 10 seconds of injury time to go. Pedro Mendes then proceeds to smash the ball from 30 yards into the top corner of the net and send Fratton Park absolutely mental!

We all know happened after that....

A year later and things are looking a lot better for Pompey. OK, we've not been in the best of form this year but we're still 9th and we're only two points off a UEFA Cup place. The situation is just a bit rosier than being 5 points adrift of 17th like we were a year ago isn't it?

It's been an eventful year for Mendes since those two screamers against City. Since then he has scored another scorcher against West Ham, celebrated an improbable escape from relegation, been injured by Ben Thatcher's ugly assault, scored a thunderbolt against Reading, then another screamer against City and then injured by Joey Barton; another City player.

On this day we should rejoice and remember the moment that changed our entire season and possibly the history of this football club. Has anyone scored a more important goal for Pompey?

Whatever Mendes does, he will always held in high regard for that moment (unless he joins Southampton!)

Pedro, we thank you for scoring such a memorable goal and here's to celebrating many more during your time at the club.

In other news, a contract has been offered to Kanu and Pompey's top scorer will decide whether he wants to sign it at the end of the season. After what Harry has done to revive his career, surely he will repay him?
