One for the Scrapbook

Finally! After four months of trying we finally get a home win and isn't it just a co-incidence that as soon as Harry returns to Fratton Park we finally chalk up a decent result...

In fairness the game itself was an extremely scrappy affair with not very many chances, many West Brom players going down easily and getting soft free kicks and plenty of work for the physio's to do too. So was it fate that Pericard would have to come off after 6 minutes to replaced by Todorov who just happened to score the winner? Who knows? More to the point who cares?

I think we just about edged it if we're comparing performances today. Sure West Brom were probably slightly better in the first half but they only tested Ashdown once from what I remember and Robert's free kick marginally missed the target. Speaking of Robert I think he had his best game in a Pompey shirt to date. I could count only one bad corner today, his passing was good and more importantly he closed down the Albion players and forced them back so well done Laurent I just hope this isn't a one off.

So much for me saying we need to score two goals to win too.. I thought our defence were solid, if a little edgy but they dealt with the threat of Kanu and Ellington well. In the second half I think we outbattled the Baggies and made more chances. Lua Lua gave their defence the runaround and although sometimes wasteful he did make a good contribution, especially for the goal. Top marks to Toddy for finally getting a league goal since 2003 it's well deserved.

The crowd played their part today eventually. A little morbid at first but after the goal and in the build up to it Fort Fratton seemed closer to its old self. Let's just hope this good start carries on when Boxing Day arrives before we can say "False Hope". We win that one and things will start to look up.

One more thing.. comedy moment of the day has to be when one of the parachutists coming into Fratton Park completely screwed up his positioning and crashed into the Fratton End. Thankfully he didn't look too hurt!

Now where did I put that hair restorer?
