Oh Dear...

Havant & Waterlooville 3 Portsmouth 1

That's not a typo. That was the final score after the final whistle went at West Leigh Park. A Premiership side had lost to a team that sit five leagues below them in the league pyramid. Before you start slitting your wrists and accepting relegation already it was near enough a reserve side that ran out today but there's absolutely no excuse for this embarassment.

60 year-old lump Dean Holdsworth beat the defence in the air to score a header in the first half though Toddy levelled things after Mornar assisted him. In the second half though Pompey barely threatened and it was Havant that made all of the chances with their second goal being scored by Baptiste after our substitute goalkeeper (Jamie Ashdown injured a finger in training) came out and tried to make the save but instead rebounded the ball off Baptiste and then a Brett Poate free kick into the low left-hand corner beat the goalkeeper again a few minutes after what looked as if it should have been a comfortable save.

Dean Kiely had no chance with the first goal and made a great double save in the second half before being subbed by the reserve 'keeper who looked responsible for the other two goals.

Richard Duffy looked sharp but got outbattled occasionally, Primus, O'Brien and Griffin; all defenders with plenty of Premiership experience were awful and constantly got outfought by the Hawks.

Richard Hughes was anonymous, John Viafara kept losing the ball, Marc Wilson looked like a conference player at times and Franck Songo'o has pace but not much else to offer at this stage of his career.

Mornar did reasonably well again and was definately the best player on the pitch until he was subbed for Giovanni Toure who showed a bit of promise but tried to do too much. Despite scoring Toddy looked well off the pace too, constantly being caught offside and also losing the ball to the Havant defence all too often.

The main problem for us tonight was teamwork. Understandably these guys haven't played with each other often and add to that the fact that Harry Redknapp wasn't there today and Tony Adams took charge and you might have a reason as to why we didn't play very well but even so, we lost to a Conference South team! The Pompey players should be ashamed of themselves.

This is taking nothing away from the Havant players though. They played extremely well for a bunch of part-timers and really deserved their win. I was very impressed and if the Hawks play like that every game this season then they have a very good chance of winning their league. I'll take the oppurtunity to wish them good luck for the coming campaign.

As for ourselves some of our players have to take a look in the mirror tonight and question their commitment because some of them, if not most of them looked as if they couldn't be arsed tonight and they have paid the price. I'm sure this is a one-off for the likes of Primus and Hughes who I'm sure will up their game after this debacle but there are question marks hovering close to some of the players' heads tonight after this embarassment.

Our next pre-season friendly is tommorow against another non-league team in Dorchester. Here's hoping that Pompey XI will not suffer the same fate as our fringe/reserve team did tonight!
