O'Brien was signed by Alain Perrin at the start of the 05/06 season and featured regularly but since Harry Redknapp's return he has seen little action with the signings of many other defenders keeping him out of the side along with Linvoy's constantly improving performances.
O'Brien was a good professional that never moaned about being left out of the squad and should do a steady job for the Trotters, despite not being the best of centre backs.
