Nuge And Noe See Off Leeds

A meagre crowd of 8,502 witnessed David Nugent score his first Pompey goal to add to Noe Pamarot's brace as Pompey beat Leeds 3-0.

I can only go by what I heard on the radio as I refused to pay £25 for a League Cup tie but from the sounds of things, the 3-0 scoreline sincerely flattered us. According to the commentary we struggled to keep hold of the ball and Leeds showed why they have started off in League One so well.

Pompey took the lead against the run of play when the returning Pedro Mendes' strike took a deflection off of Pamarot on the 43rd minute. Prior to this Leeds had missed a couple of good chances and David "Scummer" Prutton had missed a sitter. Niko Kranjcar, also returning from injury, had rattled the crossbar early in the game.

The second half continued in the same way with Pompey failing to create anything in a poor game which Leeds had the better of. We had to survive one or two penalty appeals from the away side who would have felt that they should have been level.

They would have felt worse come the 80th minute as Gary O'Neil's corner was headed in by Noe Pamarot to put the tie to bed and put Pompey through to the third round.

David Nugent then finally got off the mark in a Pompey shirt as he produced a finish from John Utaka's pass that the commentary described as "the most difficult chance he's had yet." Nuge then jumped in with the Pompey fans to celebrate and hopefully put this ridiculous transfer saga behind him.

Job done then and with matters on the pitch going as well as can be expected, things must improve off the pitch with more fans complaining about the ticketing. Some fans were not getting into the ground until half an hour into the game and the club will also be concerned with the last two attendances at Fratton Park which have been below par to say the least.
