The 24-year-old is currently at Panathinaikos but apparently has a release clause in his contract allowing him to talk to clubs that offer £5.9 million for his services. Pompey are reported to have matched that offer and will be helped by the fact the Greek side currently do not have a manager.
I'll be honest and say I don't know much about this player. All I know is that his primary position is defensive midfield and he played alongside Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano for Corinthians and is highly thought of back in his homeland.
So read into this story what you will. If we do sign him it's likely that he will replace one of of our current crop of defensive midfielders. Whether that be Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis, Richard Hughes or Lassana Diarra, who knows?
