Macca Appointed First Team Coach

Alan McLoughlin has been appointed Pompey's first team coach having spent two years as the academy coach having been brought to the club by Andy Awford.

The 46-year-old Irishman has played well over 300 games in a Portsmouth shirt and scored more than 50 goals for the club between 1992-1999. He has also worked for Pompey as a co-commentator on The Quay radio station and so has very close ties to Pompey.

It's a move that makes sense given Macca's knowledge of the internal workings of the club already and his personal relationships with other members of the fondly remembered Pompey team of the early 90's.

The sentimental value of the coaching staff will buy them some time should Pompey start the season badly but most fans will be happy with the appointments made in the summer and hopefully that will transition into a good season in League Two.
