Loudmouth Portsmouth

A recent survey conducted by a fan chants site has revealed that Pompey fans are the loudest in the Premiership.

Our lot sing on average for 58 minutes per match reaching a noise level of 97 decibels which is louder than any other set of supports who follow a Premiership team including the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool who are "famed" for their vocal support.

I can't say that I'm too surprised by these findings. At Old Trafford last weekend every time United scored a chorus of "Play Up Pompey" sounded from the away end, getting louder every time United scored. It's a typical characteristic of Portsmouth fans to make even more noise in the face of adversity and despite visiting many grounds bigger than Fratton Park I am yet to find one that can really match the old relic for atmosphere.

The study was conducted over the first five games of the season where we were unbeaten so maybe if we'd got off to a worse start the results might have been different. On the other hand we seem to get louder when we're losing anyway (that's just based on my experience mind you) so it's a possibility that we could break that 97 decibels. Not that I'd want us to find out by going on a losing streak...

So be proud that not only do we have a pretty decent Premiership team, we are the cream of the crop when it comes to Premiership support too!
