Liverpool Confirm Johnson Agreement

Liverpool FC have confirmed that Glen Johnson is set to join the Anfield club after a deal was agreed between themselves, Portsmouth and the player.

The statement on their official website confirms that an agreement was struck this evening and it is now expected that the deal will be rubber stamped during the week with a fee of £18.5 million agreed.

It was reported that Chelsea had matched Liverpool's offer but Glen has opted against a return to Stamford Bridge and believes Rafael Benitez can get the best out of him at Anfield.

Peter Storrie defended the decision to sell the player after revealing that there was a verbal agreement between Johnson and Pompey when he signed his new contract in January which allowed him to speak to a Champions League team if they approached him in the summer.

Johnson obviously feels that he has to be playing at the highest level to cement his place in the England squad so in reality he was probably always going to leave and I have to commend Storrie on getting a very good price for him.

Now we just have to find an adequate replacement for Glen. Is Younes Kaboul the answer?
