Lancashire Double

Pompey completed a Lancashire double by defeating Burnley at Turf Moor thanks to a solitary goal by David Nugent and a Pompey defence that have now kept three straight clean sheets.

A scrappy game was settled after Lauren's long ball was met by Nugent who ran down the channel and squeezed the ball past Gabor Kiraly and then taunted the "welcoming" home fans with the ear-cup celebration.

Nuge had missed a golden opportunity earlier on when Mendes' through ball met the former Preston striker who was one-on-one with Kiraly but he believed he was offside and allowed the Burnley 'keeper to take the ball from him when he should have played to the whistle and put the ball in the net.

Matty Taylor also had a great shot saved by Kiraly in the first half in a Pompey side that made 10 changes from the team that beat Blackburn. Sylvain Distin was the only survivor and we certainly needed him as Burnley bombarded our box with crosses and corners that the Frenchman dealt with.

The job has been done and I'm just happy that we didn't go out to a decent Championship outfit and happy that we've kept yet another clean sheet.

The draw for the fourth round is on Saturday and can be seen on Sky Sports 1.
