Jackett Makes Third Loan Signing Of January

Pompey have confirmed the loan signing of Tottenham defender/midfielder Anton Walkes on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old can play at right back, centre back and defensive midfield and it seems like he has initially been brought to Fratton Park to play at right back so Nathan Thompson can move further forward into a defensive midfield role.

Walkes spent much of last season on loan at MLS side Atlanta United, scoring twice in 23 appearances which suggests that he likes to get forward and have a crack at goal now and again. Atlanta fans seem to think highly of him, that's for sure.

Attention now seems to turn to who could be leaving Pompey on loan with Kyle Bennett and Conor Chaplin mooted for temporary moves away from the club.

Neither move would be totally surprising but it would be a shame to see Chaplin's talent used elsewhere because Jackett can't find the correct position to play him in. He should have been given a fair chance to shine if he could have played alongside a bigger striker such as Hawkins or Pitman.

Bennett, on the other hand, has been a real disappointment this season. He has had his bright spots but failing to score a single goal this campaign tells its own story as his lack of decision making and accurate shooting have proven to be his downfall.

A number of League Two clubs are apparently interested in signing him and thus it's expected he will be off before the transfer window shuts on Wednesday.
