Is Crouch Leaving Too?

Peter Crouch's agent has told the local press that Portsmouth may be forced to sell the striker after he said he "thinks" that the club have financial problems.

In the interview he also said that Crouch was happy at the club but insinuated that if the circumstances were right and the right offer was made, then Pompey would accept. Sunderland, Fulham and AC Milan have all been linked with making a substantial offer for the 28-year-old.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this news. It could be the agent stirring the pot as he only "thinks" that Pompey are in financial trouble and surely only knows as much as we do about Pompey's current plight.

However, if we were to sell Crouch to either Sunderland or any other club bar the likes of AC Milan whose approach would be hard to rebuff then it would confirm to me that something has gone wrong with the takeover and we're in serious trouble.

Why else would we sell our star striker who a) scored a third of our entire goals last season and b) seems happy to stay at the club?

News like this is only making me more impatient when it comes to waiting for this takeover to be complete. Latest reports suggest that due diligence is virtually complete but the Premier League's "fit and proper person" test could take a while and it may be another fortnight before the takeover is complete.

But who knows what could happen in those two weeks? We can't afford to lose a player like Crouch without a suitable replacement and selling him (unless for a ridiculous amount of money in the £15 million + range) would send out the wrong messages and install fear into every Pompey fan as the new season approaches.

I forsee more twists and turns before this saga is finalised but this may well be my final article for a week or so due to my lack of internet access because of a damaged cable that can't be repaired yet.

But I can assure you that I'll be pondering the takeover situation, and the future of our key players just as much as every other Pompey fan.
