Is Benjani Coming Back?

Pompeu cult hero Benjani Mwaruwari has told the media that he'd love to play for Pompey again. But will it happen?

The Zimbabwe international told the media that he has a "special relationship" with the Portsmouth fans and he was also present at the Britannia Stadium to watch Pompey take on Stoke earlier in the season, so it's clear that he still holds Pompey close to his heart.

He hasn't had a great time at Eastlands in honesty. Despite scoring on his debut against Man United, his time at City has been plagued with injuries and he is nowhere near as popular with the City fans as he was with us.

In fact, one City fan I know said he was "one of the worst players I've ever seen in a City shirt. He can't finish and he's very lazy so I'd be more than happy to see him leave."

With Mark Hughes almost certain to offload Benji, it would pave a way back to Fratton Park for the striker but although the majority of fans would like to see him back at the club he loves the decision will ultimately be down to the manager.

Fulham and Stoke are rumoured to be sniffing around the 30-year-old striker should he become available but I'm certain that he wouldn't think twice about returning here if the new manager showed an interest.

I'd personally love to see him back regardless of how much money we'll have to spend when the takeover goes through. No amount of money can buy you a high work ethic and Benjani's eye for goal shouldn't be under-estimated given how many goals he scored for us up front on his own during the first half of the 2007/2008 season.

So Mr. Bilic/Valilhodzic/Mancini/Redknapp/Hart I implore you to bring Benjani back to where he is wanted should he become available. It'll (arguably) be the most popular decision you make during your time at Pompey, unless you're Redknapp of course in which case, why are you even reading this when you could be telling the media about which players you want?
