Hovering Above The Trap Door

Pompey find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone following results on Wednesday night.

Stoke were the big winners of the night, beating Bolton 2-0 and therefore leaping Pompey in the process. They also leap Newcastle who are on the same points as us having been beaten by Manchester United at home.

Whilst Pompey fans usually wish defeat on Harry Redknapp I'm sure not too many will be disappointed to hear that Spurs hammered Middlesbrough 4-0 at White Hart Lane which keeps Boro entrenched in the bottom three.

Blackburn occupy the last relegation place but have crept to within one point of Pompey after a goalless draw with Everton at Ewood Park. The more worrying thing there is that a draw will see Rovers leap Pompey if they beat Fulham next Wednesday because of their superior goal difference.

There was more bad news as Hull snatched a last minute winner at Craven Cottage to extend their lead over Pompey to four points. With Sunderland and West Brom losing yesterday it's feasible that any team in the bottom half could be relegated this season.

It's gonna be an extremely tense finish to the season, starting with Middlesbrough in ten days time.
