His Master's Voice

On the back of his comments to the press last week about how he was forced out of Portsmouth FC and he was a poor iddy-biddy victim, Nigel Quashie has come forth with more anti-Pompey comments. Quite why all these people who used to be well liked here feel the need to go elsewhere and then completely demolish any respect they ever had is beyond me, although I'm sure the answer has nothing to do with extra noughts on a big fat cheque.

To be fair, Quashie does make the odd point of interest. It's hard to argue against his claim that, "They've lost nine of their last 10 in the league and that's not good" - deep and meaningful insight. He also added, "Me and Amdy Faye were playing in the centre of the park for the majority of the season and going well and now we're not there." It's true Nigel - you're NOT there any more. Well observed. Although it was a hot subject of debate amongst a lot of fans whether you and Amdy were "going well".

Unfortunately, then he starts to lose the plot a little bit. First of all he comments on how, "The money they received for us, what's it gone on? It's gone on four more foreigners, I believe." A couple of points - why is it a problem if it does go on foreigners? Is there something about them that's inferior to a good old fashion English player (not that Quashie IS English, of course, something else he seems to have forgotten). Or what about Amdy Faye, who Nigel was just lamenting the sale of? Didn't he come from abroad, of did we forget that bit too?

Nigel soon moves on to other popular subjects like Yakubu; "I think Yakubu will be the next to go and I think it's better for him to go" - can't really argue with that as he obviously doesn't care about being here - as well as Linvoy Primus - "how come one of their best players can be sitting on the bench"? Interesting that a player who was considered not even good enough for Division One by Harry Redknapp is now being defended by one of his ex-team mates who has moved to link up with the aforementioned Mr Redknapp. Such is life, full of these little wonders.

But it gets worse, as Nigel has clearly been brainwashed by Harry. How else can we explain, "When Harry took over at Portsmouth we were fourth from the bottom and going into Division Two". How often have we heard Redknapp spouting off in the press about how he saved us from going down in his first season? But SURELY a player who was actually in that team would remember we were 15th before Redknapp took over, finishing 17th after we failed to win a game for the rest of the season? Or is it the case of saying it often enough, so it becomes true?

Obviously I'm not happy about the way ex-players and management seem content to continually try to run the club down (not that you can tell from my sarcastic comments or anything). We can more than happily generate our own unrest thanks very much, without ex-badge kissers sticking their oar in. Quashie is noticeable for the amount of crap he spouts - "I'm moving for the sake of my family", for example - but given the fact he gave these quotes in a post-match interview after scoring the winner for his new club, you have to wonder why those who left are still so obsessed with us. Guilt? Anger?
