Heroes To Zeroes

Strange game football is isn't it? Two days after beating the best team in the Premiership we go and get humbled by the club who are bottom of the league.

It all started so well too after Matt Taylor's sweet right foot curler had put Pompey ahead early on with no sign of Watford getting back into the game as we were well in control.

Then Djimi Traore gave away a penalty following a clumsy challenge on Priskin, Hameur Bouazza sent David James the wrong way and we just went to pot after that. We went in at the interval behind after Gavin Mahon's volley right on the stroke of half time.

Things got worse after the break as one crossfield ball into the box beat our entire defence to allow Tamas Priskin to score his first Premiership goal. As a response to going 3-1 down Harry chucked on Kranjcar and Douala on for the inept Traore and frustrating Lomana LuaLua. This just left us open at the back as Watford continued to pile forward and eventually got the fourth goal and Bouazza's second after he pounced on David James' unlucky spill.

We alomst replied instantly as Kanu hit the bar but it just wasn't to be and despite Arnold Mvuemba coming on and scoring a decent goal, it was always going to be hard after such a huge effort against Manchester United two days ago.

It's still a pretty embarrassing result against such a poor team who are still on their way down but the combination of fatigue, injuries to key players and lack of any decent away form has cost us yet again. The squad needs to be examined in the summer and needs to be built on if we're to avoid these pathetic results next season.

We need to see a response against Newcastle now and nothing less than a win next Saturday will do.
