Hail To The King

King Kanu has claimed that he wants to stay at the club he "loves playing for" next season.

The Nigerian scored his first league goal of the season on Saturday against Bolton and that goal may be equally as important as the two he scored at Wembley last season as it may be the goal that keeps Pompey in the Premier League.

Kanu changed the Bolton game in our favour and that proves he still has something to offer at the age of 32. His skill on the ball and ability to hold it up is exceptional and he's also a better target man than Crouch because of his physical presence as shown by Jaaskelainen's error.

He may not have the energy to go longer than a Duracell bunny and he would probably lose a race between himself and Jabba the Hutt but he can be very effective coming off the bench, especially if Pompey have a lead to defend.

I hope Pompey are willing to offer arguably one of the most important players in the club's history a new deal with reduced wages and I hope that he is willing to accept the new terms and play a part in what will be a difficult 09/10 season, providing we stay up.

But to think that we believed that one of the most significant players in Pompey's history wasn't good enough to sign for us in 2006... It's just further proof that sometimes us fans really don't know better.
