Glen Johnson Returns

Harry Redknapp has sealed his eighth signing of the summer by capturing Glen Johnson's signature from Chelsea, only this time it's permanent.

The 23-year-old right back has signed a four year deal with the club and takes the vacant number 5 shirt last worn by Andy O'Brien. The fee paid to Chelsea is undisclosed but it's said to be around £3 million.

If Johnson can rediscover the form he showed during the first half of last season then this is a good signing, but should he perform like he did during the second half of last season then this will be one of Harry's more questionable buys.

In fact, it could be questioned now. We already have a decent right back in Lauren and an up-and-coming youngster in Cranie. Unless he plans to use Lauren at right midfield, but with Utaka playing so well there and Gary O'Neil to fill in I can't see why he'd do that.

Unless Gary is going somewhere of course.... Middlesbrough are supposedly desperate to sign him for £5 million and it looks like the deal could be done tonight.

The better news is that the Pedro Mendes link to Villa has been rubbished, whilst Amdy Faye has signed for Rangers so Pompey fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief there.

Welcome back Glen!
