Frustration At Fratton

Oh dear... that wasn't supposed to happen was it?

Once again Everton visit Fratton Park and win by one goal. This time it's Osman with a jammy deflected shot via Andy O'Brien however make no mistake about it we did not deserve to win this game.

It was a very lethargic performance for the most part today. The first 20 minutes I thought we played quite well and the partnership of Davis; who was probably our best player today and Mendes does show a lot of promise once both get games under their belt. However Benjani didn't look anything special and was probably outshone by Olisadebe even though he was only on for about 20 minutes. Pamarot was OK but we need Stefanovic back in the centre, Lua Lua was wasteful, Griffin had a mere and the rest were very average. I mean why the hell was Richard Hughes playing the left side of midfield!?

I have to give some credit to Everton though. David Moyes had his tactics spot on and Everton closed us down very quickly whenever he had the ball. When Leon "Lucky" Osman scored his goal the defending of Yobo and Ferrari was exemplary and they did not look like a defence who could concede four to the likes of Aston Villa and West Brom. We were very huff and puff for the rest of the game. We didn't create very many chances and a frustrating game was made even more angering when the referee constantly gave stupid little fouls in the favour of the visitors.

Anyway we need to forget about this result quickly as the next one is going to be the season definer. Birmingham City away. The team still needs more work before then. We desperately need another left sided player, a commanding central defender and possibly another striker however it's up to Redknapp to bring in the players we will just have to see what he can do. Make no mistake about it this relegation battle is far from over and although I don't know what the outcome is going to be, I do know that we're all Wigan fans tommorow!
