Euro Round-Up

David James once again sat on the bench as Paul Robinson was barely tested once again after another impressive England performance as Russia were beaten 3-0 at Wembley.

One thing that caught my attention during that game was how well Gareth Barry and Emile Heskey played. Their performances may open up McClaren's eyes and make him realise that there are good English players out there that don't play for the "big" clubs.

Maybe Matthew Taylor's chances of getting into the next squad will improve because of this, though he'll have to up his game if he wants to put himself back in the reckoning. Especially now that Harry doesn't consider him an automatic starter in the Pompey squad.

Whatever happens with the squad, it's good just to see the name "England" in the top two of our Euro 2008 qualifying group. Above us are Croatia who hit Andorra for six away from home and Niko Kranjcar contributed by scoring one of those goals.

Hermann Hreidarsson played the full game against Northern Ireland for Iceland and his side put a huge dent in Norn Iron's qualification hopes after Keith Gillespie scored a 90th minute own goal to gift Hermann and his team mates a 2-1 victory.

Now that the internationals are out of the way, we can look forward to some more exciting football come the weekend!
