Dropping the ball...

Another away game. Another defeat.

And once again we lose after being ahead.. seems to be our characteristic this season. In fact I've listed the games below where we have dropped points from being in a winning situation. Points dropped are in brackets:

Manchester City 2 Portsmouth 1 (3)
Portsmouth 1 Birmingham 1 (2)
Middlesbrough 1 Portsmouth 1 (2)
Portsmouth 2 Charlton 1 (3)
Tottenham 3 Portsmouth 1 (3)
Portsmouth 1 West Ham 1 (2)
Blackburn 2 Portsmouth 1(3)

Total: 18

So if our team were not David Blunkett personified and could actually hold onto a lead we'd find ourselves currently 5th in the table on 35 points. Hindsight is a fine thing I know however the manner in which we have conceded so many stupid goals that have cost us games and tonight was no different. I can't argue with the free kick by Pedersen as it was just as good as Taylor's opener but bloody hell the second goal.. Westerveld should have done better for starters and the defence should have been more alert before Dickov could poach. We were all over the place in the second half.

Fair enough. We were much better in the 2nd half (45 minute syndrome again) and probably should have scored but failed to capitalise on advanced positions and shaky Blackburn defending which just highlights the need for new players during the window. Mainly a couple of defenders, midfielder and a couple of strikers.. oh and a new goalkeeper because Westerveld really doesn't give me any confidence whatsoever. It's down to Harry to find these players. Resources or not.

That's the rant over for today. Two big games coming up and no doubt the team will have a different look about it but first we have an FA Cup tie to deal with in the form of Ipswich Town. January will be a key month in our season for sure.
