Denilson To Sign?

Last updated : 13 September 2006 By Jim Bonner
Former Brazil international and World Cup winner Denilson is training with Pompey ahead of a possible deal for the 28 year-old left winger.

Denilson is one of the biggest money signings in football history with Real Betis paying Sao Paulo £21.9 million for him. After spending five years with the La Liga side he went to French outfit Bordeaux where he helped them to second in the league last season. Bordeaux could not afford his wage demands for the following season however and now Denilson is a free agent and is training with Pompey.

Denilson is seen as a falling star who, despite moments of brilliance, fails to deliver consistantly enough to be the top player he has the talent to be. He would fit in nicely at Fratton Park then, as our squad is full of players supposedly "past it" or looking to prove a point to doubters. Denilson could be another player that Harry Redknapp can revive back to his former glories and under Gaydamak, his wage demands shouldn't be a problem.

So will Pompey get a World Cup winner in their ranks? Check back later to find out!
