Defoe Signs, Benji Stays!

Harry Redknapp has finally got his man as Jermain Defoe has joined Pompey from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee, said to be around £9 million.

The 25-year-old was reported to be joining Pompey as Benjani was going to sign for Manchester City for a similar fee. However, City have confirmed that the Zimbabwean striker did not arrive at Eastlands on time and so the paperwork couldn't be completed before the deadline.

So now not only have we added a top quality player to the squad that could flourish under Harry Redknapp, but we also get to keep the Premier League's third-top scorer and one of our favourites for the time being!

In other news, Glen Johnson and David James have earned themselves a call up to Fabio Capello's first England squad whilst Papa Bouba Diop is on his way home as Senegal could only draw 1-1 with South Africa, meaning both teams failed to qualify from their group.

It's been a very good day!
