Defoe Called Up For England

Last updated : 03 February 2008 By Jim Bonner
Well, what a week it has been for Jermain Defoe!

He moves to Pompey on Thursday, scores on his debut against Chelsea on Saturday, today was subject to more controversy after it was discovered that his move to Portsmouth is not yet permament and now he has been named in the England squad to face Switzerland on Wednesday!

Fabio Capello has turned to the ex-Spurs striker after Gabriel Agbonlahor, initially in the squad, had to pull out due to an injury he suffered today at Craven Cottage as Fulham did us a favour by beating Fulham 2-1.

Defoe joins David James in the England squad, but Glen Johnson did not make the final cut when the final team was named yesterday.
