Defensive Dealings

We're still in the chase for a couple more players (and hopefully three, according to Alain) before the transfer window closes - in just eleven days - and although the priority is no doubt an attacking midfielder/right winger, the club have done rather well in keeping their targets in that area under wraps. Meanwhile it could also be more than reasonably argued that we need more strength in depth at the back, and so no doubt this is why we're allegedly on the brink of signing a couple more defenders.

All the big name sources - BBC, Sky Sports - are reporting that we'll soon be tying up a loan deal for Rangers defender Zura Khizanishvili. Funnily enough he's been forced out of a first team place up in Scotland after the Gers signed two former Pompey targets, Fanfan and Rodriguez. He impressed at Dundee although has failed to really hit the heights since moving to Ibrox but Perrin is keen on giving his career a kickstart.

Another player who is supposedly all-but signed is Danish international Brian Priske. Currently plying his trade for Racing Genk, their chairman was quoted as saying that he had played his last ever game for the club and a move to Portsmouth was now a formality; the fee supposedly in the region of £500,000. You might have noticed him playing for Denmark against England during the week or, more likely, you didn't bother to watch it because you knew it would be rubbish/boring.

That's your lot though with regards to rumours at the moment, I'm afraid. With regards to our attacking targets then the club have kept it very quiet although the Carlton Cole rumour has re-surfaced. Milan is quoted as saying that apparently he's a player we're prepared to invest in, although I'm fairly sure that's just a recycled quote from a month or so ago that some bored journo has brought back to life in a desperate attempt to speed up a slow news day.

With time ticking away, expect some deals soon I'd say.
