David Determined To Stay

David Nugent has dismissed speculation linking him to Derby by revealing that he wants to fight for a first team place at Pompey.

"I'm happy at Portsmouth, I don't want to leave, I've never wanted to leave." Nugent told Sky Sports. This was likely to be the case after the former Preston striker leapt into the crowd after scoring his first goal for Pompey against Leeds last night and thanked the fans for sticking by him.

But Harry wants to bring in a top quality striker and needs to raise the funds to do so. So who is this "top quality" striker? Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch are the strongest links to the club with just two days to go until the window shuts.

Who could possibly be sold to fund this transfer? Gary O'Neil doesn't want to leave whilst Matthew Taylor has previously stated that he's happy at the club. It would probably be easier to say who won't be leaving for definite!

In other transfer news, Dejan Stefanovic looks to be on his way with both Rangers and Fulham battling for his signature. There are also rumours that Sean Davis could be offered in a player plus cash deal for Papa Bouba Diop.

So, with Nugent stating his case for preserving his Pompey career, this long saga has taken yet another twist. What's going to happen next? Stay tuned to Fratton Faithful to find out!
