Charlton vs Pompey Preview

Easter Monday sees a knackered Pompey side travel to The Valley to take on mediocre Charlton Athletic.

Firstly however I would like to say "There's only two Milans" after a Milan Baros double sank Birmingham City in a 3-1 win for Aston Villa today. This result has kept The Brummies three points behind us and has put Pompey within two goals of their goal difference. So if we were to win tommorow it would put immense pressure on the other two relegation candidates.

However the state of our team isn't looking too great at the moment. Lomana Lua Lua might miss out again whilst Toddy looks to be injured as well as Sean Davis who will also probably miss out (hence his half time substitution yesterday). On top of that certain members of the team look to be completely exhausted and it's rumoured D'Alessandro and Primus will be replaced by Routledge and O'Brien as Harry shakes up the squad therefore we could possibly be looking at the scary partnership of Benjani and Karadas tommorow. I predict a goal for Benjani tommorow, he's been playing well recently and will soon get the breakthrough he deserves.

Charlton however are nothing special, having started the season in great fashion including a 2-1 win over Pompey at Fratton Park. However in true Charlton fashion they have ballsed it up and their traditional end of season slump has occured yet again, so victory tommorow isn't impossible especially if we play like we did the last time we visited London. Charlton have also had to play four games in nine days but then they have no injury worries. One player to watch tommorow will be Darren Bent, he's the top English striker in the league currently and has pace in abundance so our defence will have to be on their toes however the clean sheet yesterday will be a boost.

One player who will want to make his presence felt is Ex-Addicks stalwart Dean Kiely. Surplus to requirements at Charlton Deano will want to prove to former boss Alan Curbishley that he was wrong to sell him. Let's just hope he doesn't replicate the last minute performance of our goalkeeper last season eh? Though I would love to see another cracker from Pompey even if Berger is no longer with us. Step up Matty Taylor perhaps?

I would take a draw tommorow knowing that would force the other two teams to win and also considering we play Sunderland at home the following Saturday, a game we should win. However a win tommorow as I said before would put immense pressure on the other two teams down there with us. As long as we extend our unbeaten run to seven games we will still be in the driving seat for Premiership survival so let's go there and get a result!
