Bye Burch

Better days
Former "bright young thing" Mark Burchill is set to join Championship side Rotherham on a month long loan, in another attempt to kick-start his career. Ronnie Moore will no doubt be hoping he can change the fortunes of his winless Millers, who currently lie bottom of the league.

Burchill's story is a well repeated one. A flying start at Fratton Park, a tragic injury, and his face hasn't seemed to fit in since. The theories behind this are many and numerous - some have questioned his attitude in training, some have said Harry is opposed to playing him as he was signed by Rix, but the more likely scenario is that since he has made 24 appearances for Pompey, one more would require a fee in the region of £500,000 to be paid to fomer club Celtic.

Despite a decent record here of a goal every three games (a statistic in common with LuaLua and, er, Mornar), Burch has spent the last couple of years out on loan; Dundee, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday have all had the joy of his company. Rotherham will be his eighth club, and if he's not careful he's going to have a career record to rival Steve Claridge.
