The last time Portsmouth lost two league games in sucession was for the final two games of the ultimately dissapointing 2001/2002 season, when a home loss to Watford was followed by an away defeat to Champions Man City. However, goals by Stephen Clemence and Stan Lazaridis comdemned Portsmouth to a second straight defeat over the weekend.

The bright spot for Portsmouth was the league return of Matthew Taylor, who played nearly an hour at St Andrews before being replaced by Jason Roberts.
