Battle At The Bridge

It's a bit ludicrous to think that a team in our position could go away to the Champions and pick up a result but for over an hour that looked possible today.

Alright so we lost 2-0 after Eidur Gujohnsen and Claude Makele came on and changed the game, that is the sort of luxury Chelsea have however that shouldn't hurt us too much because I thought the lads put in a very creditable performance today and made Chelsea look ordinary for the majority of the match. Even when Lampard scored we still refused to give up and Richard Hughes should have equalised after a wonderful cross by Wayne Routledge.

In fact if we were more effective in the box we might have taken something today because some of the crosses from the wide men were screaming for a red and gold shirt to get on the end of it. Lua Lua also got through at one point early in the second half but if you create any sort of chance against the Champions then you really have to take them as you will be punished for it.

I think Koroman had an OK debut but it was all about a decent team performance today and even Karadas wasn't too bad in central defence even if he, along with the rest of our defence got caught out and gave a sloppy goal away to Robben. Still, we can take heart from this battling performance but we need to be hitting the net with the chances we create if we have any hope of survival now. Benjani has to start justifying his price tag as he never really had much of a sniff today and it was mainly the midfield having any sort of chance to score.

I guess this means for the first time since the last home game of last season we will be backing Yakubu to do some damage to West Brom. Eleven points would be one hell of a gap to close. This performance will be encouraging for our next away game against Aston Villa and we'll have to break our away day duck sooner or later.
