Barker Brings In New Assistant

Anthony Williams has been confirmed as Richie Barker's new assistant manager after the depature of Steve Allen. He has also taken the role of goalkeeping coach as David Coles also left his post today.

The move comes as no surprise as Coles wasn't on a contract and Williams had been Barker's assistant at Crawley and Bury. The 36-year-old has had many clubs in his playing days but spent four years at Hartlepool at the turn of the century.

Hypothetically, Williams could still play for Pompey and his role at the club should see Phil Smith leave as his proverbial toes have been trodden on. Trevor Carson may yet have to return to Bury or end up moving elsewhere so it would be no surprise to see Pompey's new assistant manager make a playing appearance before the season ends.

The Welshman's arrival and the depatures of Allen and Coles has seen the backroom team change with the new manager looking to get his own men in. It makes you wonder what the future holds for Alan McLoughlin as he was an integral part of the previous regime.
