A Bridge Too Far

Wayne Bridge won't be coming to Pompey after signing a new four year deal at Chelsea.

It was reported that Harry Redknapp had made Bridge his number one transfer target for the left back position but it seems that the (ex)-England left back is happy to sit on the bench and collect his wages.

Pompey fans' opinions have been split over the decision with some disappointed that the club have missed out on a very good left back whilst others are relieved that a player deeply stained by the red and white will not be joining the South Coast's number one side.

I'm personally not too bothered about this, as I think Bridge is over-rated by many and not much better than Nicky Shorey who is next on the list of left backs that Harry wants.

Left back is certainly a position that needs strengthening with Hermann turning 34 whilst Lauren and Pamarot are not naturally suited to the role. We need cover/competition in this area but I trust Harry to get it right.
