Your Memories!

The two stories we have today demonstate the wide spectrum of support Portsmouth have. Clive Harris' greatest moment dates back to 1992: The FA Cup Quarter final win over Nottingham Forest.

"Tickets were like gold dust for this one however my brothers and I managed
to get seats in the north stand. Alan Mclaughlin scored after 2 minutes and
everyone was waiting for the final whistle from then on. Stuart Pearce hit
the post and a Brian Law got sent off (I think). The real drama started at
the final whistle when the supporters invaded the hallowed turf. Never
before were such celebrations seen I sat in my seat and just watched the
whole pitch fill up awaiting their idols to come back out. Martin Khul was
first to appear followed by the rest of the team and the EAGLE himself (Jim
Smith). After about ten minutes we left our seats and made our way back to
the patrons lounge were even more celebrations were taking place. We
celebrated well into the night with players and office staff".

Portsmouth were perhaps unlucky not to go all the way to Wembley that year.

This was prior of course, to the introduction Premier League. If it's interesting to note how much football has changed in a decade, then think back even further, to when Portsmouth were the top dogs in English football! David Jones remembers:

"My memories go back to the glory days of late forties/early fifties.

"Apart from the league games, prior to the season, there was not any of these show games against Continentals, I would go to see the First XI
against the reserves.
So much was the interest in thise days there was always a crowd of
20.000 plus".

That's just shy of the attendence against Aston Villa! Anyone else remember the crazy crowd figures before these days of all seater stadiums? Or has anyone paid the enterance fee just to see Rosie Francis strut her stuff? Bizarre, serious or funny, if you have a memory, then here's where to get it in print!
