The 40-year-old midfielder began his playing career at Walsall from 1995 to 2002 and returned to the Bescot for one more season in 2006 having played for Hull, Kidderminster and Lincoln in between.
Keates spent most of the rest of his playing career with Wrexham and after retiring, became their manager in 2016 before returning once again to Walsall last season to replace the sacked Jon Whitney.
