Part 4 of 4

Here's the final part of the Fratton Faithful Half-Time Report. This one is about the guys who are supposed to find the net for us on a regular basis.

#8 Andrew Cole

I was slightly sceptical when we signed the 35-year-old from Manchester City in the summer and then he got injured which meant he didn't have the best start to his Pompey career.

However, when he has played for us, I have always been impressed with his hold up play, intelligence and his outstanding finishing. I feel when he's fully fit now then he has to start because he has qualities that none of our other players have.

His instincts are second to none; you only need to take a look at the goals he has scored for us. The "turn and strike" against West Ham, his "crab" poach against Fulham and his outstanding finishes against Bolton and Wigan. 4 goals in 4 starts and 10 sub appearances is a good record and in my opinion, he is the best goalscorer we have at the club.

Verdict: Harry has said that other clubs have expressed an interest in Cole but doesn't want to let him go. I can't see him leaving either as I'm sure he will get his first team place sooner rather than later.

#9 Svetoslav Todorov

Since firing us to promotion from Division One, Toddy has been plagued by an injury nightmare. He only managed to find his fitness again last season and scored some crucial goals in our run to safety. He then started this season with a bang, scoring twice in three games before he was surprisingly loaned to Wigan.

Unfortunately his loan spell wasn't successful as he scored no goals, missed a penalty and then got injured again. He's back at Fratton Park and with LuaLua injured he might be able to find a slot back in the first team, but I doubt he will. Harry obviously prefers Benjani, Kanu, Andy Cole and LuaLua to Todorov and I think the fans favourite could leave for good this month.

Verdict: I think that because of his injury problems, Harry sees him as nothing more than a squad player and despite his ability, I think he could leave Pompey for good in the transfer window to a Championship club. I think it would be a mistake given the fragile nature of our current forwards though.

#25 Benjani Mwaruwari

If Benjani could finish, he would be top class.

The rest of his game is decent in general. Pompey fans admire the Zimbabwean striker for his workrate, his assists and surprisingly his willingness to get back and defend when we're under the cosh. Tony Adams has said that as a team we should defend from the front and Benjani typifies that spirit.

If there was a definition of a team-player then Benjani would fit the bill perfectly. He's unselfish and does a lot of running and chasing for the team. If the 28-year-old could time his runs better to avoid the offside flag and get out of the habit of missing sitters then he would be the first name on the teamsheet.

Verdict: I can't imagine Benjani going anywhere. His overall contribution to the team is excellent because he makes chances and goals for other players. If only he could finish his own chances....

#27 Nwankwo Kanu

When Harry Redknapp signed Kanu, his arrival was not approved by the majority of Pompey fans. Even I believed that he would be a mere squad player. I think it's safe to say that he has proved everyone wrong.

The tall Nigerian is our top scorer with 10 goals, with most of them being headers. His game is about more than goals though. I believe he is the best player we have to hold up the ball and bring others into play. He can be a menace to mark and I've noticed that he can take the opposition defenders out of the game as they try and crowd him out.

Kanu has constantly been linked with a move away to Ajax but he has personally refuted these claims, saying that he is waiting for Pompey to give him a new deal. At 30-years-old he is playing his best football in years and I'm sure he will continue to score for us until the end of the season at least. There's just the question of whether he and Andy Cole can play up front together, because neither will want to sit on the bench.

Verdict: Despite the transfer rumours, I think the club would be stupid not to renew his contract. He has by far exceeded our expectations of him and he's now a key figure for us. Kanu has said himself that he loves it here so let's get him signed up!

#32 Lomana Tresor LuaLua

It's been hard to judge LuaLua this season because he has been injured for the most part. When he has played I've been happy with his contribution to the team. After all, he has scored two crucial winners for us against Charlton and Watford.

But those are the only two goals he has grabbed for us this season. LuaLua has a reputation for being frustrating and once again fans have been annoyed with him, probably not so much down to his selfishness, but because he has hardly been available this season.

I do think that some of the criticism he has recieved has been unfair and at times he has been made a scapegoat for bad results. The DR Congo international has got plenty of pace and tricks and I agree with other fans that he is far too selfish and doesn't score as much as a striker should. But on his day he is unplayable, he just needs to have his day more often.

Verdict: 2006 wasn't a great year personally for LuaLua after the death of his son, missing out on the last few games of our great escape due to a self-inflicted injury and suffering some sickening abuse from some so-called Pompey "fans". Here's hoping 2007 marks a new start for the 25-year-old once he returns from injury. He has the potential to be an asset to Pompey; he just needs to learn how to pass!
