Part 4 of 4

Here's the final part of this little feature then, with the jury out on the Pompey strikers followed by a summary of where all Pompey players will end up next season and who might be brought in.

#8 Andrew Cole

HT Verdict: Harry has said that other clubs have expressed an interest in Cole but doesn't want to let him go. I can't see him leaving either as I'm sure he will get his first team place sooner rather than later.

Hmmm... looks like I put too much faith in Andy Cole. No goals since the start of 2007 and lack of playing time meant he moved to the Championship and helped Birmingham secure automatic promotion. It's a shame it didn't work out this season and Pompey have already said they won't stand in his way if he wants to leave.

FT Verdict: I don't believe Cole has a future at Fratton Park so he might end up joining one of the promoted sides given he has said he wants one more crack at the Premiership. At 36, it would be a swansong and no doubt he'd score against us if he played against us.

#9 Svetoslav Todorov

HT Verdict: I think that because of his injury problems, Harry sees him as nothing more than a squad player and despite his ability, I think he could leave Pompey for good in the transfer window to a Championship club. I think it would be a mistake given the fragile nature of our current forwards though.

Toddy ended up staying but like Cole, he didn't get given much playing time after an unsuccessful loan spell at Wigan. Harry has said that he wants him for another year and has challenged him to show the scoring form that played a massive part in our promotion to the Premiership. Toddy has always been a fan favourite, but will he accept a one year deal?

FT Verdict: I still think Toddy has something to offer us if he can avoid injury but he would only be a squad player. I hope he accepts Harry's challenge and can prove his doubters wrong, but I feel he will leave before the end of next season.

#25 Benjani Mwaruwari

HT Verdict: I can't imagine Benjani going anywhere. His overall contribution to the team is excellent because he makes chances and goals for other players. If only he could finish his own chances....

Benjani ended up scoring 6 goals all season, which on the face of it isn't good enough for a striker who we paid £4.4 million for. However, he has played his part in making goals for other players and his pace has caused many defenders problems. Benjani is probably the first choice striker at the club at the moment because of his pace and his workrate, but if he could just be a more potent finisher then he could be a real star name.

FT Verdict: I'd put my house on Benjani staying at Pompey if I owned one! His workrate has made him a Pompey favourite and I can't see him leaving for France as reported in the papers this past season.

#27 Nwankwo Kanu

HT Verdict: Despite the transfer rumours, I think the club would be stupid not to renew his contract. He has by far exceeded our expectations of him and he's now a key figure for us. Kanu has said himself that he loves it here so let's get him signed up!

That opinion has changed a bit since January. We've done well to get 12 goals out of him but he only scored 3 times for us in 2007, with his last goal coming against Man City way back in February. Kanu has only been offered a one year deal with the option of an extension but it's still uncertain whether the Nigerian will accept it. If he does, I don't expect him to be guaranteed first team football because I don't think he'll score more than 10 goals for us next season. His game is based more on his hold-up play and causing trouble for defenders though, so he would be a handy player to keep hold of.

FT Verdict: I think Kanu will end up staying with Pompey but I hope Harry doesn't settle for the current strikers we have. Despite his exploits this season, Kanu is not what you'd call a "goalscorer" and we need to find one in the summer.

#32 Lomana Tresor LuaLua

HT Verdict: 2006 wasn't a great year personally for LuaLua after the death of his son, missing out on the last few games of our great escape due to a self-inflicted injury and suffering some sickening abuse from some so-called Pompey "fans". Here's hoping 2007 marks a new start for the 25-year-old once he returns from injury. He has the potential to be an asset to Pompey; he just needs to learn how to pass!

LuaLua has continued to frustrate Pompey fans with his problems off the field and his uncanny ability to wear out the linesmens flags. Only scoring two goals all season has not helped his cause and he is still far too selfish for my liking, with Harry also getting annoyed with him not knowing the word "pass". Next season could well be his last chance saloon.

FT Verdict: LuaLua will probably be the most likely striker to leave Pompey if Harry's patience has ran out. The DR Congo striker still has something to offer but I wonder if after the torrid time he has had on and off the pitch, whether he feels he is up to it in a Pompey shirt anymore.

That ends my Full-Time Verdict feature for this season. Here's a brief synopsis of what I expect the current crop of Pompey players will do in the summer.
