PFC beat Clapham Orient 16-1, to establish a record victory which remains so today. Also, the club play at Wembley in the London War Cup Final, but lose 2-0 to Brentford.
Field Marshal Montgomery of Alamein elected President
Duggie Reid and Harry Ferrier join club.
-1947: Pompey finish the season in 12th in Division One, on 41 pts.
-1948: Jack Tinn retires. Bob Jackson becomes manager.
-1949: For the Jubilee Year, the club go for the ultimate achievement - and succeed. Champions of England on 58 points, they finish 5 clear of the nearest contenders, Manchester United. Meanwhile, in a FA Cup tie at Fratton Park against Derby, a still-record crowd of 51,385 attend.
-1950: Portsmouth finish Champions again - but it's by the narrowest of margins. Whilst Pompey and Wolves both finish on 53 points, it is our goal average of 1.95, compared with Wolves' 1.55, which means the title stays on the South Coast.
